Hope City is partnering with One Child Matters in Cebu, Philippines.
Our team will work with the Happy Horizons Children's Ranch found in Bunga, a poor, mountainous farming village located two hours from Cebu City on the island of Cebu. In addition to subsistence farming, adults typically work as day laborers, traders, and animal herders. The community often struggles with issues such as domestic violence, child trafficking, and family disintegration. The majority of people follow a traditional, animist religion and are very superstitious in nature.
The Happy Horizons Children's Ranch ministers to street children in a number of ways, including street outreaches, drop-in centers, a residential program, and a halfway house to help reintegrate children from the residential program into the job market or continued schooling. While involved at the ranch, children receive instruction in subjects including English, Filipino, math, science, and geography. Chapel and devotions are held daily, promoting a loving and stable environment for the children.
This trip is geared toward introducing team members to a new culture, meeting and ministering with our sponsored children and potential work projects. Team members will have the opportunity to build relationships with the Hope city sponsored children and share the love of Jesus in the community.
Hope City is partnering with The Vine in Kamuli, Uganda to empower the local community by providing education, life skills, medical treatment, and spiritual discipleship.
Our team will serve eight villages in the Kamuli area along with two prisons. The Vine is working to bring solar powered lighting to dark huts and families that can't afford kerosene for light at night. Social Workers have identified the need for women's sanitary products and educational materials. We will also conduct Jigger camps to alleviate the greater problem in the Kamuli district, and put shoes on children in need.
